Role overview:
This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with sleep-related breathing disorders and other sleep disorders. Additionally, the position includes evaluating lung function through pulmonary function testing and other diagnostic procedures for outpatients. The role combines expertise in sleep medicine and pulmonary health to provide comprehensive care to patients with a variety of respiratory and sleep-related issues.
Responsibilities
- Selects appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust if necessary and apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. (AASM).
- Performs polysomnography (PSG) sleep study and positive airway pressure (PAP), Schedules and organizes special procedure tests and follow the procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data Performs patients testing including but not limited to ABG’s, Non-invasive PAP devices and checking Co2 level by using end-tidal CO2level (EtCO2) or transcutaneous carbon dioxide monitor (TcCO2).
- Apply suitable electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient’s head according to the 10 -20 system of electrode placement and checks their impedance and performance according to AASM.
- Performs data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies, corrects and documents artifact.
- Scores sleep stages and clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards and guidelines and generating accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
- Troubleshoots the equipment and performs minor repairs.
- Perform diagnostic tests, such as spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis, and pulmonary function tests, to evaluate lung function.
- Administer prescribed respiratory treatments, including nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, inhalation therapy, and oxygen therapy
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize patient care families.
- Experience in outpatient or clinical settings, with the ability to assess, diagnose, and treat respiratory conditions
- Ensure proper maintenance and functioning of respiratory equipment used in the outpatient setting.
- Document all procedures, interventions, and communications with patients and healthcare providers in the medical record system.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Academic qualification as a Registered Nurse and at least one certification from RPSGT, ABSM, or NBRC
- Minimum of 2 years of experience post qualification
Certification and Licensure:
- Registered Polysomnographic Technician certification (RPSGT)
- Department of Health (DOH) medical License.
- Basic Life support (BLS)
- Advance Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
