JOB DESCRIPTION

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST 

Conducts functional assessment and develops a plan using treatment technique to promote improvement in the activity of daily living of patients and individuals which includes improvement or restoration of physical function and prevention of disability.

Treats and assists patients or individuals in preventing the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness- oriented programs for healthier and more      active lifestyles.

Provides treatments to patients or individuals as clinically indicated or prescribed by the attending physician or organized and structured patient care plan agreed upon by the physician and other multi-disciplinary team members. Performs all clinical procedures and treatments following the evidence-based practice and the clinical policy and procedures or guidelines established by the department, the hospital, the Department of Health Authority (DHA) and the Joint Commission International (JCI). Provides or assists with clinical support and supervision to other Junior Physical Therapists when required.

REQUIREMENTS : 

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy
  • Current license of practice in country of origin or country point of hire and/or Dubai Health Authority (DHA), United Arab Emirates.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience post-certification as an Occupational Therapist in Pediatric.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and Interpersonal Skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality and Accuracy:

  • Prioritizes tasks ensuring effective functioning of the unit.
  • Follows the chain of command in reporting incidents or concerns.
  • Participates in the department’s Quality Improvements (QI) activities.
  • Complies with Hospital Policy and Procedure regarding safety, infection control and security.
  • Promotes incident, and customer complaint reporting to improve patient and family care.
  • Uses selected measurement procedures, such as Joint Range of Motion (ROM) tests, manual muscle tests, and functional and coordination tests.
  • Applies supportive and assistive devices accurately and in such a manner as to avoid possible harm to the patient or damage to the equipment.
  • Applies appropriate modalities at correct dosages, correct length and intensity as deemed necessary by initial and ongoing patient evaluation.
  • Ensures compliance with current American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) documents, including Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy and the Criteria, Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, Code of Ethics, and Guide for Professional Conduct.
  • Ensures that services are consistent with the mission, purposes, and goals of the physical therapy services.
  • Ensures that services are provided per established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that the process for assignment and reassignment of physical therapist staff supports individual physical therapists’ responsibility to their patients and meets the needs of the patients/clients.
  • Reviews and updates policies and procedures.
  • Identifies departmental performance improvement issues and participates in performance improvement activities (e.g. chart reviews, revision of documentation forms, workflow studies, etc.).
  • Re-evaluates patient care services and programs, and completes assignments in the departmental plan to improve services regularly.
  • Participates in new program development (e.g. developing treatment protocols for new patient populations).
  • Identifies needs for equipment repair or upgrade to maintain quality of care.
  • Makes recommendations for the selection and purchase of specific equipment and supplies.

Quantity and Organizational Skills:

  • Demonstrates the maximum treatment capacity of 20  Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes (each CPT code represents a 15-minute treatment session):
    • Occupational Therapy Consultation
    • Patient Initial Visit Assessment/Re-assessment
    • Patient Follow-up Visit Assessment/Re-assessment
    • Patient Athletic Training Initial Evaluation
    • Patient Athletic Training Follow-up Evaluation
    • Patient Self Care and Management Training
    • Patient Return to Community and Work Training
    • Patient Work Initial Hardening and Conditioning Training
    • Patient Work Follow-up Hardening and Conditioning Training
    • Patient Cognitive Development
    • Patient Therapeutic Exercises
    • Patient Active and Functional Training
    • Patient Assistive Device/Tools Training
    • Patient Wheelchair Management Training
    • Patient/Physiotherapist Assist to perform a Procedures
    • Patient Activity Assist or Patient Transfer Assist
    • Patient Orthotics Management
    • Patient Splints Preparation and Management
  • Participates in staff meetings and unit projects, and implements/evaluates creative approaches to meeting goals.
  • Performs additional duties as specified by immediate Supervisor.
  • Acts as a resource for Nursing and other healthcare personnel, to make them aware of concerns of the department they relate to patient care.
  • Acts as a resource for problem-solving clinical issues.
  • Organizes and maintains a patient caseload consistent with department productivity standards.
  • Schedules inpatients and informs supervisor if problems arise related to the delivery of patient care or caseload volume.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current license of practice in country of origin or country point of hire and/or Dubai Health Authority (DHA), United Arab Emirates.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience post-certification as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
